Many of our community members at Gramercy on the Park North Dallas apartments enjoy entertaining friends and family for the holidays. Along with the festivities, a bit of mess might follow, so we offer these five easy cleaning tips after the last bit of confetti and good cheer subsides.
Ditch Unwanted Gifts
The fact is that so many of us get unwanted holiday gifts — or those we just cannot use — but the sentiment can keep on giving if we just forward them along to someone else. If you get gift tags that allow for returns or exchanges, awesome. If not, consider a local charity that might find the need for those extra items, so you don’t have to clean around them.
Deal With Holiday Cards
Holiday cards add up quickly if you have a large circle, so you can use them to create crafts, recycle them, or save the most precious notes. One of the easiest components of post-holiday clean up by far is getting these small reminders out of the way so the deeper cleaning can begin.
Tidy Up Guest Rooms
Did anyone decide to stay the night in a guest room? After tending to the kitchen and living room spaces, the guest room will likely need a good cleaning. Wash the sheets, vacuum and do a light dusting to sanitize the area and be prepared for your next guest.
Remove Holiday Lights
If lights are adorning the windows of your Dallas apartment, getting all those pesky wires out of the way will streamline the cleaning process. Decide if you want to save them for next year, and store them or donate them appropriately.
Tree Take-Down and Removal
Once New Year’s Day has come and gone, your holiday tree is likely ready to be stored or disposed of. Be sure to find out about the neighborhood rules for curbside pickup for trees if you have a live one, as this is typically a free service to Dallas residents.

Take a quick look around your Dallas apartment. Is your place visitor-ready? When asked this question, most folks would have to say no. Keeping your apartment clean enough to be ready for guests at a moment’s notice may seem like a daunting task, but you can do it. Here are our top two strategies for successful cleaning.
Clean as you go
How do most of us clean? We let stuff pile up until our place is a gigantic mess, and then we devote hours to meticulously filing things away and diligently scrubbing surfaces. But this is no way to live! The best way to keep your apartment looking sharp is to clean as you go.
But what does it mean to clean as you go? Here are some specifics.
Declutter Daily
Cleaning as you go means staying on top of clutter. Schedule 10 or 15 minutes of putting-stuff-away time into your evening routine. You’ll feel better in your space and just might save time compared to marathon weekend cleaning sessions.
Never Walk Away
Our second clean-as-you-go strategy is to never walk away from a mess. Did something spill in the kitchen – even just a little? Grab a rag and wipe it up, right then and there. If you walk away, you run the risk of forgetting about the spill. When you next encounter it, it’s dried-on gunk that requires far more effort to clean.
Of course, if you have children around, there will be times when you don’t have a choice but to walk away from a mess. Still, implement this strategy when you can. Even if you only clean 50 percent of the messes in the moment, that cuts your big cleaning sessions in half.
Clean Mindfully
It’s always a good idea to work smarter, not harder, and this includes your cleaning regimen. For example, don’t pile dinner prep dishes on the counter. Instead, unload your dishwasher before cooking dinner, so you can put dirty prep dishes directly in.

Open the door of your pantry and take a look. Do you see a jumble of cans, half-finished bags of stale snacks and expired spices you forgot you bought? Keeping your kitchen cabinets in order not only makes it easier to find what you need, but it can help you save money by helping to avoid purchasing items you already have. But most homeowners don’t have a system when it comes to organizing their shelves. Use these simple tips to keep your pantry neat and tidy.
Tips for Organizing Your Kitchen Pantry
- Use clear containers. Food comes in dozens of different-sized packages. Sometimes, arranging them in your pantry is like playing Tetris, and it is difficult to see how much of each item you have left. Instead, remove food from its package and put it into stackable see-through containers. Not only will you be able to increase your storage, but you will also be able to quickly determine when it is time to add something to your shopping list.
- Don’t forget the directions. Using separate containers is excellent, but getting rid of old packaging means losing the instructions. Always cut out the directions from the package and tape them to the top of the container, so you will still know how to prepare the food.
- Remember first-in, first-out. When you buy a new package of something you already have in your pantry, don’t add it to the container you already have. Put the fresh food in its own container and place it behind the older one. Make sure to label the item and include its expiration date, so you will never throw out perfectly safe food ever again.
- Install a shelf for small containers on the pantry door. It is easy for small bottles of spices or packets of soup mix to disappear in your pantry. Adding a shelf to the inside of your pantry door keeps all of these small items within easy reach and out of the dark corners. If you don’t want the hassle of installing shelves, consider wire baskets from the top of the door.
In addition to organizing your kitchen, finding great apartments in North Dallas also doesn’t need to be a struggle. Gramercy on Park provides easy access to downtown Dallas while offering sought-after amenities. Call 866-350-7648 to arrange a showing of available units.

They're everywhere — on the fridge, on the walls and in files and piles — but your photographs need to be organized to be truly enjoyed. Dallas apartments have plenty of storage space and display opportunities, so deciding which images you love most and how you want to display them is an easy, but necessary task. When you store your photos properly, they will last a lifetime. Store them the wrong way and they could fade, peel or warp over time.
Organize and Display Photos at Home
While you can usually discard images that didn't work — the ones with closed eyes, redeye or other issues — before you even print them, some do slip by. The best way to organize your collection is to begin by getting rid of images you don't really need. This will allow you to display the things you truly love and free up storage space for more pieces.
- Discard any photos that didn't turn out, are of people you don't know or like or that were photobombed or otherwise damaged. If a photo is sentimental, but still not good, keep it, but otherwise discard ones you'll never display or enjoy.
- Store photos that you want to keep but are not going to display right now. Acid-free boxes specifically designed for paper and photos are not expensive and can protect your photos from sunlight and damage; they also stack easily and keep everything together.
- Display photos you enjoy and want to see daily on your walls, on mirrors, in frames, and in albums. Take care to keep photos out of direct sunlight — your Dallas apartment may get amazing light, but all that sun is not good for your pictures!
Rotate photos regularly so you can enjoy them and add any new ones to your collection as you take them. Organizing and displaying your photos allows you to see the ones you truly love every day and ensures nothing gets lost or damaged. Need somewhere to show off your art and photo collection? Our Dallas apartments are designed with style in mind and make it easy to showcase your most cherished items with ease. Stop by and check us out today and see all that we have to offer!
